This week the students were encouraged to take part in a World Maths Day which involved completing a range of challenging maths activities. The students had to use their creative thinking and problem solving skills to tackle each challenge. They had so much fun and felt great when they had completed the challenge set for them.

Room4 have just arrived back from our Waitomo Caves camp. We started with an amazing Powhiri at Tokikapu Marae where we learnt all about their culture and the way they live. We stayed there for three nights. The first activity we went to was the Waitomo caves where we were mesmerised by a massive array of glow worms. We also saw huge stalactites, stalagmites and columns throughout the caves. After that we went to the Waitomo caves discovery centre and learnt lots of factual information about the caves and their history. The next day we completed the mini quest team building challenge that involved us working together to complete different activities. Mean while some of the adults took on the challenge of black water rafting. After that we went to the Ruakuri cave. This cave has a new 4 million dollar entrance down into the cave. This cave was also full of spectacular stalactites, stalagmites and columns. Many that have been formed over hundreds of thousands of year. The following day we did a trip to the west coast and along the way we visited the Mangapohue natural bridge, Piripiri caves, Kiritehere beach and Marokopa falls. On our last day at camp we visited the Otorohanga Kiwi house where we were lucky enough to see a very active large brown kiwi digging a new burrow in his enclosure. We also completed the kiwiana tour around town and learnt many interesting facts about famous New Zealanders and other kiwi icons that make our country unique. It was then time to head home and catch up on some R&R after our very busy and super exciting camp. We know our time at camp will be a memory that we will all have for many years to come. Thanks to Mrs Hetherington, Miss Telfar and all of the wonderful parents that helped make our camp an awesome time. From the children in room 4&5 |
