Today Room 4 student’s learnt about what materials are needed to create a successful compost bin. There are many different stages of composting and it is important to make sure you put the correct materials in layer by layer so they break down to create rich healthy compost. The student’s also enjoyed searching for different bugs and creatures that live in compost.

Wow we have had a very busy week in Room 4 with visits from story tellers, butchers and today James visited us from Kiwi Hockey. He taught us some valuable hockey skills like holding the stick properly, dribbling, stopping and positions. We then had a fun game of rob the nest, before playing a real game of Hockey which was awesome fun!!
"BUTCHER VISIT"
Today we had the privilege to have Brett Collins from Tairua Butchery come in and show us some of the organs of a Sheep. He showed us the Eye balls, Liver, Lungs and Heart. He showed us how they work and we talked about why they are important in our bodies. He cut up some to the organs and passed the around and we were able to touch them and look at them closely....if we were brave enough!! Check out the awesome photos below!!! Today we enjoyed being entertained by a very talented story teller called Zebong. He shared many wonderful stories with us about his family. He was funny, clever, smart, and amazing. We all laughed a lot and though he was very funny!!
Today room 4 had an amazing opportunity to learn hyper-active gymnastics. This included jumping high off the spring board and landing on two feet onto the mat below. We also learnt to do forward rolls using correct technique, rear support, back support, and many more stretches and gymnastic moves.
By Zion The monster sized fish slowly glides through the water like a plane in the air. The Sunfish silently lurks waiting to make its attack. The tiny fish are surrounding the enormous Sunfish. The glass clear reflection appears at the surface of the water. By Brett Steadily the elephant creeps awkwardly into the dim room. The beast has rough skin like rocks. Curiously, the crowd stare at the sluggish animal in front of them. Outside, the footpath glimmers and glows in the sun. By Stella Three teeny piglets peer above a hollow crumbly log. There boggy pink snouts sniffle quietly. Moss grows slowly on the long muffled log. Thin slithers of fresh green grass whisper in the wind as the piglets forked hooves hover about the ground. By Bryony Curiously, the Takahe stares at the damp juicy grass. The grass soars through the swift silky air. The glowing colours on the Takahe brighten up the wild forest. The nights sky storks the Takahe from behind. By Maika The glowing green Kea stands like a ninja on its perch. The Kea chirps away cheerfully. The brown branches lurk behind the Kea. The night is as black as coal. By Jessica and Otama The suffering whale strains to survive while lying breathlessly on the damp beach.
The brave men are effortlessly raising the dying whale. Dark dim clouds surround the misty air. The crumbly black sand is dominant along the endless beach. By Reo and Zion Our task was to create a 3-D colour creation. First we got a piece of paper and drew a big shape on it, and then we divided the shape into three portions. In each portion we drew a different pattern using our three colours before cutting it out. We then stuck each portion onto a coloured piece of paper by gluing our patterns over top of each other to create a 3-D effect.
By Stella The students in room 4 have been focusing on writing detailed sentences using adjectives, verbs, and adverbs to create imagery. They were given a photo to write a sentence about and here is what some of them came up with:
The men bound nervously into the bitter cold water, while medics linger in their jet black wet suits waiting for trouble. Otama Extremely happy, the grateful man smiles, at his humongous long lasting cheese burger. Bella Gladly, the courageous young fire fighters lay dormantly on the glowing grass after an endless day. Ella CM The curious lady cautiously glanced around at the marvellous furry creature on her back. Stella The mountain stood frozen, as snow tumbled down like raindrops. Jade.L The active adults excitedly sprinted through the tall golden grass. Hunter The fierce Gorilla lay carefully on the charming brave ladies back. Sollie A gigantic boisterous crowd of people all shapes and sizes gather around and launch colourful basketballs gracefully into the air. Bryony Silently, the generous people slowly walk to the wedding up ahead, like a turtle walking to the sea to start a new life. The road sparkles as the sun beams down on it. Brett |
