On Tuesday Room 4 were lucky enough to experience an amazing kayaking and walking trip from Hahei to Catherdral Cove on the Coromandal Peninsula. This term the year 5 & 6 students have taken part in the Water Wise program which has given them the opportunity to learn new kayaking skills. It was great for these students to use the skills they had learnt in such a stunning environment and face new challengers in the outdoors. We hope you enjoy the slide show below.

On Wednesday the whole school went to the beach to celebrate Sea Week. We did a variety of activities which included rock pool studies, a giant sand sculpture, beach clean up and beach games. It was a great learning environment for the children and an excellent way to educate the students about the beach and how it is a wonderful asset to the community, but how it is so important that we look after and care for it. Look at our self portraitsWe have been learning about proportion, facial features, shading, depth and sketching when drawing our self portraits. Some of us found this quite a challenge! In our classroom we aim to "live" the principles of being a Global Citizen at Tairua School. The key principles to becoming a Global Tairua Citizen are: # Connecting to the local, national and global environment # Independent self manager # Trustworthy and reliable # Innovative and creative thinker # Zest for knowledge and learning # Engaged in others welfare # Not all about me Find out more about our being a Global Citizen right here
