On Tuesday room four had an amazing experience kayaking around the crystal clear water of Cathedral Cove. Half of the class walked the trail to Cathedral Cove with stunning views. We all met up at Cathedral Cove going through a thrilling cave. Then the groups swapped around. The kayakers passed stingray bay, and there was a lot of vicious stingrays. Then we passed gemstone bay, it was so beautiful. After both groups met together we had lunch. We then had a beach clean up to help the environment. The two groups split up walking separate ways, one group found a swing that people swung off gliding in the air and landing on the soft silky sand. Once we finished we had a nice refreshing swim while been entertained by fabulous dolphins. Saddly it was then time to drive back to school. What an amazing day!! By Zion

BEACH HOP DECSRIPTIVE WRITING
The glimmering flames shoot past like spaghetti. The engine roars like a lion. The essence of diesel filled the air. It zooms past like ice on a smooth polished table. My hair blows in the wave of wind that it leaves. The wheels were shining like a spider web made out of steel, with a rubber coat that grapples onto the road like a kid reaching for chocolate. By Zac Red as fire gleaming in the burning sun, faster than a horse galloping across the wide open paddocks. The glimmering sliver symbol placed in the front of the shiny red mustang sparkles in the sun. The flash pitch black stripes shimmers like a diamond. The long red car drifts and speeds along the windy road. It was fascinating to see. By Zion As the hot pink shiny car parked under a shady tree, the sun peered through making it glimmer in the sun light. The car’s engine roars through my ears. The car is as smooth as glass. Its black rubbery wheels skid on the hot melting tar. By Katy The bright blue glittering paint has a vertical black strip straight through the middle of the car. The car sparkled in the hot burning sun as it glided slowly down the road. I could imagine touching the smooth soft car and when I move my hand across the car it feels kind of rough like elephant skin. By Maika The glimmer polished engine looks bumpy like a mountain. The smooth tops are boiling like a pot of potatoes. The bright fire flames stretch across the black like the dark of the night. The curbed shining mud guard protects the rubber grey tyres; reminding me of clouds on a wet rainy day. The inside is pure white like feathers on a swan. Suddenly it zooms off with its roaring engine. By Ella Me and My Family
Our Family name, filled with pride, carries the history of generations gone by. For those who have lived and those not yet born our family strong and proud, forever lives on ~ Anon Here are the amazing projects that the students in room 4 have completed about their unique families. They are full of interesting information with some very special family stories and facts. Wow....this year we were lucky enough to head into town to check out the cool Beach Hop Cars. They were all really different and some were super flash. It is great that they make the effort to visit Tairua. There were so many awesome ones it was hard to choose a favourite.
From the Kids in Room 4 The Human Body
Built on a framework of bone, which is stronger than steel, is the most complicated of all machines - your body. It can breath, smell, taste, eat, drink, feel, talk, walk and think. It is also clever enough to mend itself when it is broken. The brain is in charge, controlling all your body's systems. These work together throughout your life. As you grow up, your body will go through lots of changes, but if you look after your amazing body machine, it should last you for a life time. Here are some interesting facts we have learnt about the HUMAN BODY!! # There are over 600 muscles in the body. # There are 206 bones in the body. # Babies are born with more bones than adults. # The largest organ in our body is our skin. # The Arteries take blood away from our bodies and Veins take blood to our hearts. # Did you know you use 15 muscles to smile and 40 muscles to frown. # It takes 24 hours for my food to travel from my mouth to the end of my large intestine. # My small intestine is about 20 feet long. # Muscles become stronger by getting small tears in them and then they repair themselves. # The skull protects our brains. # The brain is the control system for our body. Yesterday some students from room 4 and room 5 participated in the Interschool Swimming Champs held at Whangamata Area School. They all did extremely well and thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was a big step up for some of the students in room 4 and I was very proud of the courage and determination they showed throughout the day.
Wow...today we had another very successful beach day to celebrate Sea Week. All of the students from Tairua Primary gathered on Tairua Beach where they participated in beach games, rock pool studies, sand castle building and a beach clean up. Being at the beach today allowed the students the opportunity to connect with their local environment and take their learning to the outdoors. You will see from the photos that everyone had a fantastic day.
Paddle for humanity
On Saturday Tairua School hosted Paddle for Humanity which is an event that they host every year. Members of the community gather at the bottom of the harbour and paddle up to the school and then there’s a celebration at the school with food, auctions, bands, and singers. All the money raised from the celebration goes to Surfaid International. This year Ziggy & Sollie Heath won a penny board for selling the most raffle ticket. Surfaid International is a group of surfers that recognise small villages that need help around the world. This year’s fund raising went towards building a new school at Masokut village. In total an amazing $6500.00 was raised. Well done everyone for your great effort. The money will go a long way towards a new school for the children of Masokut Village. By Zac Hemmings |
