Our pictures were created using sharpies to outline our drawings after we put the dye on them.

Our visit to the marina building site was a great way for us to see how simple machines are used within larger machines. We saw pulleys, levers, cogs, ramps and hydraulic systems. We wore the appropriate safety gear to ensure we would be seen and safe while the machines were working. Dressed in bike helmets and high visability jackets we listened to Alan and Dino as they explained how they were constructing the marina. The highlight was watching the huge machines as they worked.
Term 1 was filled withs lot's of exciting days, but our Pizza day was one to remember. Taste buds were tingling as Room 2 learnt how to make pizza dough and create a pizza of their choice. What clever little chefs we have! Learning new cooking skills was accompanied with fractions and measurment. It was a pretty fun way to learn maths. Hopefully these photo's wont make you too hungry. Wow! What a show. After studying the book "I'm the King of the Mountain" by Joy Cowley for several weeks, Room 2 decided it would be a great idea to create a play based on the book. The students lead the charge with this performance and they did their school proud. They created their costumes and stage, wrote invitations for family to come watch and they put their heart and soul into their character. A variety of learning outcomes were achieved from performing this play, but the most significant was the students understanding that texts are written and read for an audience. This is such an important aspect in a child's learning because they are developing the concept that books have a purpose. During Bookweek Mr Finn read us stories over the PA system. The first one he told us was about three little lambs. We all really enjoyed it and it made us think about writing our own story. We compared two stories- The Three Little Pigs and The Three Little Lambs. We talked about the similarities and the differences and recorded our ideas on a venn diagram. After we had talked about the features of both stories, we decided we would need a bad character (like the wolf or the weasel) and three little animals (like the pigs and the lambs). It would also have to have a happy ending. We strated brainstorming our ideas and then got underway with the writing. After we had written the story we planned out our illustrations and began creating our awesome artwork. It is on our wall in Room 2 so pop in and check it out. Here are a few photos. Some of our writing about Elgregoe the magician... On Tuesday Elgregoe the magic, magical magician came to Tairua School. I liked the part when he took the napkin and made all that snow! He did some bird tricks as well. By Natasha Elgregoe came to Tairua School. My favourite part was the birds and the snow. My favourite bird was the big parrot. Elgregoe told us about respect, consideration, support, courage, honesty and caring. He comes from Christchurch. That's where I used to live! By Sharnae In Room 2 we are clever writers! We try tricky words by writing down the sounds we can hear and we use the spelling cards to help us. At the moment we are learning how we can make our writing interesting for others to read. We use WOW words, start our writing with an exciting hook and even use speech marks to show what people said. We have two books in our class where we record wonderful sentences from peoples writing books. The yellow book is our Gold for Glory book. Miss Langsford copies snippets of super writing from our writing books so other people can read these examples of wonderful writing. The blue book is our Room 2 Hook Book. In this book Miss Langsford copies exciting story beginnings that make the reader want to read more. Come in to Room 2 and check them out!
