Today the students from room four started creating their Garden Sculpture. I was so very proud of the way they worked together to problem solve, create and make their designs. Everyone showed flair and talent by working patiently to design a piece of garden art that suited them and their style. Come back and look at the finished creations soon........................

Each group entered the Marine wonder world through the draped over classroom door. First we were shown Harriett’s awesome movie about the bottle nosed dolphins. After it was finished we went and searched around the room which had swirly blue strands hanging from the roof. We went around the corner and discovered more fascinating projects. We answered all the questions and went to the next project. We crept into the pitch black cave and were met by a couple of people who were going to show us their very interesting projects. We came out and finished answering the rest of the questions. When we got to the end we gave our answers to Usheni and went over to Ahi and Vita at the table beside the back door. We wrote our names neatly with pen on a piece of paper and wrote a word to describe the whole experience in the Room Five Marine Reserve. We went back to Usheni. Yay! We got all the answers right. The bell rings and children swarm to the class room. We get put into our groups and off we drive. Once we arrive we scramble out of the cars and into the fresh clean air, our bags are loaded with baby native kauri and off we go. Up the stairs and through the bush, we plant our trees, some of us even named them ... Bob, Fred and Saffron! We come back through the bush and back to the meeting place suddenly Miss Cherry hands around, yummmmmm! Chocolate chip cookies! We are relieved when we walk down to the beach with much lighter bags than before! Rugby, sandcastles and lunch at last! Bryony, Libby, Zion, Jessica, Jade.L, Ella-G, Katy and Heidi all worked together and built an amazing sandcastle in the shape of Paku. Tallest and prettiest sandcastles were built and decorated with all sorts of different things that had been swept up by the waves, Bryony, Ella-G and Libby won for the tallest sandcastle and Jade.L, Bella and Tayla won for the prettiest sandcastle. We head back up the hill and down the path all the way back to our cars. It was a long drive back, but boy did we have a great day. BUTCHER VISIT Last month Brett brought in some body parts of a sheep. Today Brett came and brought in some amazing bones and brains. He brought in a rib cage with the spin attached and leg joints. He showed us where the different bones connect to the body. We got to hold them and move them about to see how they work. The brains looked like raw mince. This has been a great experience for us, especially as we have been learning all about the Human Body. THANKS HEAPS BRETT!! Wow....we were very lucky to be entertained today by the Whangamata Kapahaka group. This was part of our Matariki celebrations. After they performed their wonderful songs they joined us for a delicious Hangi.
We were very lucky this morning to have a visit from the students in room two who came and shared their wonderful Space Projects with us. They had all put so much time and effort into their projects and they enjoyed sharing their interesting facts and information that they had learnt about their planet. Well Done Room 2!!
Room 4 Matariki Celebrations
After the opening of the Waharoa this morning, which was a very moving ceremony, the students in room 4 participated in kite making, flax weaving and Matariki art work. They all had a great time and enjoyed the day of fun and creativity. These creative Matariki activities are part of our week long celebrations to celebrate Maori New Year. It was a very proud moment today seeing the students of Tairua Primary school do the Haka and sing the school song as part of the Waharoa celebration. Yesterday Briar from Sport Waikato came and taught us how to play Tapuwai. This game involved lots of different ball skills and was a great team challenge. We were lucky that is was a warm sunny day and we were able to enjoy Briar teaching us a new game.
