During term 3 and 4 some students have been involved in a group called ‘Boys Brigade’. The group of students were all boys left over on Thursday afternoon whilst the rest of the class were involved in other curricular groups (creative writing, age care readers, mural artists, garden club and bible in schools). The boys were asked to brainstorm ideas on what they would like to learn about and something we could achieve in this time slot. The boys also had to identify people in our community that could help us acquire these skills or experiences. The boys made an extensive list and we have already covered many of the skills and experiences the boys identified. Our community constable, Matt Goodman has eagerly contributed to the organisation of this terms timetable and he has made some very exciting things happen for the boys.
This group has been a trial for an initiative I would like to continue in 2014 called 'electives'. All children in Room 5 will have a chance to experience something similar and we will arrange things slightly differently for each group per term next year.
THE TRIAL HAS BEEN A COMPLETE SUCCESS!
Thank you to all the people in the community who have given their time to help the boys achieve their list.
