The EMR programme provides schools with the knowledge and experience of their local marine environment and encourages students to use their new found understanding and appreciation to take action and tackle a chosen marine conservation issue. Room 5 students experienced:
Snorkel Training - Pool SessionOut in the Ocean - Comparing Marine EnvironmentsWho would have thought that we would have to share the marine reserve with an orca whale! Lucky we all had a great view from the rocks as we dried off. Thanks Greg for a brilliant day, like no other. Dancing away the night with visiting class from Randwick Primary School, Auckland. Students literally shook the foundations of the MPR room. So yes you could say the event was a total success. Bit hot though to say the least, the very least. Check out all the red faces! Kool Kids on KOOL FM...Double Kool! Groups of Room 5 students worked together to research, design, practise and present a radio show to be recorded and played 'on air' on a local radio station, KOOL FM 97.9. Station Manager Colin McCabe provided helpful DJ tips to the students such as "wet your lips and smile" and he was very supportive of the class initiative. Colin also provided technical support throughout the process and was impressed with the students final recordings. He offered Tairua School a regular weekly spot on KOOL FM in 2013. Groups chose an ‘era’ of music to study and based their song choices from this decade. Another aspect of the group project was to select a local non profit organisation in need of support. Students approached local businesses for a donation; in exchange students designed an advertisement to promote their business on air. Donations were made to: PETS ON THE NET RED CROSS RAT ATTACK PATHWAYS SURF LIFE SAVING We would like to thank these local businesses for their optimism and generous support of our class radio projects: Tairua Massage Clinic Tairua Stationers and Lotto Shop Tairua Information Centre Taste Takeaways Shine Hairdressing Listen to our shows..... |
