During Bike week Constable Maryann came to talk to us about bike safety and showed us how to wear our helmets correctly. We had fun on our bikes as we rode around the obstacle course she set out for us. Lorenzo brought his bike into Room 1 and we made observational drawings of it.
During Seaweek Room 1 listened to Cam the Rubbish Man and discussed and researched using non fiction books and the internet. We wanted to see the many ways our rubbish causes harm to the creatures in the sea. We were shocked to see the plastics swirling around in the ocean and harming the fish and seabirds. Our mural shows happy healthy fish.At the school Beach Day we explored the rock pools and learned to treat these with care too. Check out the rock pool we made in the classroom. What makes a home? This was a great discussion and we decided homes have people living in them, we have our own toys and treasures in them, there is furniture, power, food and photos but most importantly our families live there. The children created homes and after painting them, made people and furniture to put in them. At the beginning of the year Room 1 spent time getting to know each other and learned we are all special and unique. We discussed differences and similarities, things we are good at and things we need to practise, how we can support others in their learning and what we need to do to learn. Our portraits show we are observant and listen carefully to instructions. We think they are awesome. Our families are unique too and our screen prints show this well. Some families are small, some are larger and one of our Dads has two additional children he didn't know about, due to the wishful thinking of his daughter. |
