We had to think about how we laid out our information, it had to be clearly written down for others to read.
We all enjoy learning new things. So we decided to do a project on an animal we didn't know anything about. We had to ask ourselves 5 questions about the animal and then we had to find the information using only books. *This was a bit tricky especially if there wasn't much information about the animal. We had to think about how we laid out our information, it had to be clearly written down for others to read.

We were studying New Zealand and as part of that we did some 'Kiwiana' painting On Monday 26th August we finally had our school cross country. After the cold wet weather we were lucky to have a good afternoon to tun the cross country. We started opposite the Surf club and ran down to the bridge by the causeway.
We have been practising all term for this day and the training really did pay off. With some surprised contestants who did better than what they thought Results for our class are Year 3 Girls 1st Zoe Bourne 2nd Natasha Woolley 3rd Evie Rogers Boys 1st Karter Vanbilsen 2nd Mali Millen 3rd Ash Kennedy Year 4 Girls 1st Ana Tangira 2nd Darnika Urlich 3rd Libby Hughes Boys 1st Cameron Kilpatrick 2nd Ashdyn Rae 3rd Trident Price
Flying objects We investigated flying. We watched videos on how things fly and what makes things go up. The children soon realised that wind plays an important part in flight. We made kites and then had a choice to make any flying objects we liked; a lot of people chose to make darts, some people made a different kite and some others made lanterns. We had to make an object that would fly for more than 5 metres. It was an exciting day the day we all had made our objects. First we let the dart makers throw their darts, Quintin was the convincing winner. Then the kite flyers let fly with their kites, all of them were successful, with Cameron reaching the greatest heights. We then got the people with lanterns to light their candles but disaster struck they caught lit and nothing flew. But all in all it was a lot of fun and the children learnt a little bit about aerodynamics. Sport - Term 3
Hockey was the focus for our sport this term. We had coaching from a Waikato Sports coach and learnt a lot of skills. We played hockey often (when the weather was good enough) and developed some pretty handy hockey skills. We learnt that it is really important to wear our safety gear (mouth guard and shoes) when playing hockey as it protects us from the hard ball and hockey stick. Tairua School Citizen At the beginning of this term Room 3 investigated our Tairua School CITIZEN concept. We woked in groups and pairs to come up with our own understanding of what the concept means. C – Connected to the Local, National and Global Environment. I – Independent Self Manger T- Trustworthy and Reliable I – Innovative and Creative Z –Zest for Knowledge and Learning E – Engaged in Others Welfare N – Not All About Me Firstly we found out what the words meant for each part, through searching dictionaries and thesauruses to find meanings for words. Once we had an understanding of what the words meant, we talked about different scenarios which would show what each part meant. We wrote poems and made Logos for each part. Room 3 went on an overnight camp to the Broken Hills Hills camp ground, what a blast we had. It was a very busy time. In preparation for camp we studied native trees, as well as learning how to erect tents, and build bivouacs (thanks to Glenn who showed us).
The camp was about getting to know our environment, team work, cooperation and experiencing a overnight camping situation. The children were amazing and put effort into enerything they did with no moans or groans. The camp was a great success, thanks to all the parents who helped; David, Ren, Andy, Pete, Dean, Linda, Megan, Leigh, Gillian, Alison, Atawhai, Nykesha and Brenda. Also thanks to the generiosty of Leigh and James Rolton who donated buns and a collection of other baked delights. We made a photostory of our camp, Thank you Ana Tangira for the great narration of our story. Here is a photostory of Room 3 underwater. we go swimming everyday and our skills have improved amazingly. Our school bought a new underwater camera so we decided to take some under water shots.
Kia ora, welcome to Room 3 for 2013, I hope you all had a good holiday; it’s certainly been a great summer.
